Workplace issues around bullying, harassment or unhealthy team cultures don’t happen in a vacuum; they are the result of uncivil behaviour that is left unchecked.
Good workplace cultures are built on a shared understanding of respect and positive intent, which looks different for every organisation.
Participants on this course will explore the concept of incivility in our workplaces and why it is a growing concern. The course defines incivility and contrasts it with more serious behaviour such as bullying, while also highlighting the potentially serious consequences of failing to address incivility.
The focus of the course is on developing an authentic dialogue within teams about incivility, leading to more respectful team communication and collaboration.
Learning objectives
- Recognise incivility and understand how it differs from bullying, harassment and discrimination.
- Understand the consequences of incivility and why addressing it should be a priority.
- Learn how to implement (and participate in) a structured process for increasing respect and manaakitanga within a work team.
